"Seeing someone in the audience bored during my presentation is my biggest nightmare".
"Noticing someone who is obviously mentally absent or seeing someone looking at their phone📱 during my presentation makes me feel incredibly insecure," said one of my clients.
Her problem was understandable. No one wants to see people bored or distracted while they are speaking.
So what's the solution? Speak directly to that person to get his or her attention? Ask him or her to stop looking at their smartphone? Maybe not the best idea...
💡 Think about it: If your presentation becomes interesting to them again at some point, they will reconnect. If it's not interesting to them at all, you've lost them anyway. If you get distracted by them, you risk losing the rest of the audience as well.
My mindset in these situations: JUST IGNORE THEM.
First, I have to accept that no matter how hard I try, my speeches cannot ALWAYS be interesting to ALL the people in the room.
Second, I can't win against phone addiction. No way. Once I accepted that, the pressure disappeared.
Ignore those who are disconnected.
Focus on those in the audience who are listening and interested in your speech.
Because THOSE are the ones who deserve your FULL ATTENTION❗
