How do you deal with stage fright before a presentation?

Writer's picture: Wolfgang HarbauerWolfgang Harbauer

I recently heard this statement (not for the first time):

"You know, once I'm on stage and I start my presentation, everything's fine. But the minutes before are a total horror 😱. I'm waiting impatiently. My throat gets dry. My pulse goes up. Thoughts of panic go through my head".

I am sure you know these feelings. Stage fright. Who hasn't experienced it?

It's perfectly normal. But how can you control it? Or better still, how can you use it to your advantage ✌?

One tip: before you start your presentation, take a deep breath. Do a kind of mini-meditation (meditation practice in general is definitely good for your public speaking 🧘‍♂️).

Block out everything around you. Pay attention to your breathing, breathe deeply and calmly.

Think only about the first sentence you want to say (I guess the rest of your speech you have practised enough 😉).

Then take that nervousness and turn it into positive energy 🌟. You get on stage - and then you start 🚀.

Does this work for you? How do you deal with stage fright before a presentation?
