I can only, uh, hope that by the time you, uh, get to the end, you know what I'm saying, to the end of this sentence, ok, that you're still reading this, uh, blog post.
That was awful, right?
A sentence full of filler words: uh, ok, like, you know...
Nobody would write like that because nobody would read that gibberish.
Amazingly, when people talk, most of them just don't care. That might be OK in everyday conversation. But if you are giving a speech or presentation, using filler words is the best way to shoot yourself in the foot.
Because filler words are killer words - these words kill your message!
Your message will be killed and you will bore your audience to death, that's what I call a double murder.
How do you stop using filler words? There is a simple trick - just try pausing instead of saying 'like' or 'um'. You will sound much more confident, you will give your audience time to think and your message will get through. You may still use some filler words in the beginning, but it's good practice to get rid of them as you go.
And remember: You would, like, never, uh, read a sentence written like that, if you know what I mean.
